I Just Heard The Perfectly Timed Rewind Or “Wheel*”

January 26th, 2019 Comments off

Yesterday, quite late at night in all naturality and courtesy of 6 Figures Gang on rinse.fm.

I heard the perfectly timed rewind**. How is that possible? In all actuality or technically it is not.

It was by pure coincidence and something that is not entirely inconceivable if you happen to listen to rinse.fm propagating from London.

Once again I was reminded of the (not only musical) impact Londionium has had on my entire life – and still has I might add.

– So, what is this thing? What is a perfectly timed rewind?

– Well, to begin with there is no such thing as a perfectly timed rewind.

– What?

– In all honesty it doesn’t really make any sense at all.

– What do you mean?

– Well, you already know that it is a ‘tune’. The rewind is made just so that those who are not “We Are The Music Makers” can climb aboard.

That’s, not the entire truth though – what the rewind does is to reinforce the “tune” and far from every track gets rewinded.

But, every “Tune” that should, do get rewinded.

– I still don’t understand.

– You do listen to the music right? Well, then you will know when a rewind is mandatory. It can be a classic track, but usually it is a new play.

– Why? Because, you listen and whenever you hear that, that something – the groundbreaking stuff… then it will become mandatory, maybe.

Mind you it is just simply a question of culture. It is made in order to separate those who know from those who don’t. The ‘tourists’ from the rest if you will.

You can hear it, just a few bars in… and then you either know or you don’t know.

That is where the rewind originates from.

However, always remember the most important aspect – it is really just about amusement/funniness!

There’s absolutely no point in doing it, yet, it is vital and important.

As I said before it is all about: culture.

– Mm.

– Yes, I, ; )

* The expression is a new one, it makes perfect sense, but I’m old as dirt so it is still new to me: “WHEEL”!

** Right… it is to play the track backwards for a short will and then replay the exact same track.

There is yet another reference and I’m not sure if it is intentional or not but “Wheels of steel” is a reference to record players and specifically and not surprisingly the Technichs 1210 (there are several different models and generations).

Ironically, I’m confident that the turntable plate itself is made out of aluminum. It is milled from one solid piece and ingeniously serves as the rotor of a very powerful electric motor – it is the ultimate designed turntable and nothing will ever surpass it. Furthermore it is literately indestructible if handled correctly.

Please see: Make No Mistake.

East or West? Crips or Blood?

The love of my life did not like that I dressed in blue. It is true that it is a very long time ago, it was very serious nevertheless, I still like the color blue, and I like red as much as that I like blue…

East or West? Crips or Bloods? However, the Wu, RZA, ODB and DJ Premier would be the decider? In reality it is or never never was a contest. It was settled a long time ago.

“Bobby Digital” is from 1998 and “Dre 2001” is from 1999. Wu-tang for ever? Unfortunately I am unable to confirm it and that is for an eternity.

…these words will suffice: DJ STORM!

The Metalheadz back catalogue features almost every major figure in the history of drum and bass, and is one of the most innovative labels out there, consistently crossing boundaries with its releases since 1994. And yes, there most definitely is a relation.

True Breaks

If you truly care about the breaks? I may have forgotten but I was reminded with a very hard slap on the wrist. It was well deserved.

BOYMERANG? That is eternal music. Oh my lord! “Still” is… Doc Scott that ended up on “Prototype”? That would be Grooveriders’ label.

There’s a lot of: Photek, J Majik and then some in there… “In Balance Of The Force”.

Le Mépris By Le Mépris

I like this album a lot. It is so melancholic, it contains piano, cello and it is scaled down, yet dramatic.

I like the artwork, I like the label [sic!] and I like the (assumed) über-reference as well.

The title and the artist’s name must have been taken from the identically named 1960’s film directed by Jean-Luc Godard and starring Brigitte Bardot? Contempt (1963).

It is very strong word, in any language.

System Burial?

“No sound can test, so you can bring them on.”

Wow, that’s funny and quite a claim apart from being an excellent opening track and one, two or possibly three quite heavy samples.

Fabio & Groove upsetting again. Lovely!

Hail, The Haley Brothers!

Somatic Responses. Consistency. Always so beautifully consequently distorted. Every time. And has been so for a very long time.

It used to be called “hardcore” and I for one think that it is still a deserved title. It is properly intense music, that I’ve come to understand over time. Rude soundin’ music.

The best kept secret. The reason why Hymen is and is not Ant-Zen. These are industrial breaks. The head shaking ones, but not necessarily in approval. The hardcore ones.

Electronic Music From The Lost World: 1998-2001

January 30th, 2018 Comments off

Of course it had to come to this.

The lost battle, what extraordinary music and the sentiment is very much retained.

That would be ASIP and you’ll find the digital version here: 1998-2001.

The title is excellent, by the side-way. After all it is: Christian Klein.
