Nevermind The Chatty Chat, This Is Still Drum’n’Bass

rinse_fm_mix_300_1If you would happen to be in any way interested in what in the name of Gaia keeps an old man rambling on about the good old days of drum’n’bass?

There’s an outstanding Metalheadz’ mix (selection wise that is, because two decades of wishing MC:s to just stop making vocal noises hasn’t ended I’m afraid) on the ancient radio station Rinse 106.8FM* courtesy of Londonium, UK.

This mix may shed some light on this peculiar and rather annoying phenomenon. Yes, I want to listen to the very old and the equally brand new drum’n’bass recorded on 2013-06-19. The musical creativity, the joy and the uncompromised belief in the future. Ancient music… but it is always going to be a question of having as much fun as possible!

However, I miss ‘Danny Breaks’ in the nostalgic section (can’t say if he ever released on Metalheadz though) otherwise it’s a reasonable recollection of my golden days (minus the talking person, no MC present in the golden times…). Well, to be honest that is not entirely true and then there are quite a few artists missing, but in all fairness you can’t fit them all in a two hour set.

And yes I did visit Blue Note in Hoxton Square in Londonium, UK personally and it was fabulous but another story.

This mix also contains a forthcoming release by: Dom & Roland on Metalheadz. What can I say, either you know or you don’t… The tech is very much alive it would seem and that makes me very pleased!

Just listen to the breaks or even more concrete the drum and the bass.

I would never have found this mix in the first place if it was not for the relentless DJ Krazy. Many, many thanks for the inspiration! As many times before and as always…

PS. No, I don’t believe any of it, this I do believe, either you you’re a d’n’b soldier (no gender applied) or you’re not, there is no easy-listening d’n’b and there never was and there never will be.

*FM would be Frequency Modulation = an analogue radio wave based distribution technique that pre-dates the internet and requires special apparatus to be captured.
