Four Original Quotes

1st – Heter the Smurf eller Snurf?
Unknown, May 2020
A young girl on bike asking her friend (the obvious authority); a perfectly legitimate, relevant and pertinent question. Is it Smurf or Snurf? I’m thinking that an inverted Smurf is a Snurf.

2nd – We’re getting there!
Uncle Dugs, Apr 2020
Uncle Dugs from rinse.fm on the progress made spreading the joy of 1993’s jungle, hardcore and other essential musical styles.

3rd – I remember this tune as if it was Yesterday!
Uncle Dugs, Apr 2020
That would be a tune played in 1993. As the man himself puts it:

I’ve never found music that’s buzzed me like the hardcore, the acid house, the jungle stuff, from the mid/late 80s and the mid/late 90s,” he grins. “There’s nothing that’s ever done that to me again. I’ve never lost the buzz for it that I found the day I went to my first rave. The minute I found it, that was me, forever.

The shout-out frequency on this show is truly something else! It is never ending: crew, by crew, designated drivers, DJs and the rest.

4th – We were in Högängen.
Known, Anonymous, Apr 2020
The place exists, but even though a have extensive first-hand knowledge of the area I’ve never heard it been called that before. It is situated between the two subway stations: Bandhagen and Högdalen, Bandängen is named, whereas Högängen is not. Yet…

The KTH-A building on Östermalmsgatan 26, and its 45 years of proud service as an institution producing and disseminating architectural knowledge. The building was inaugurated in 1970 and designed by a team of architects led by Gunnar Henriksson and John Olsson.

Ref.

This new brutalist masterpiece was voted the ugliest building in Stockholm 2008 and was severally damaged in an (accidental) fire in 2011; then facing demolition for the second time (the first one being after the vote) it was ultimately spared that grim fate.

Something has to be said about the location: Östermalmsgatan 26 – Uggleviksgatan – Karlavägen – Rådmansgatan.

It may or may have something to do with how the vote turned out in the end. – Why? Well, the address is located in an area that most likely did not embrace the idea of anything being built at all to begin with and that which was eventually erected.

I for one would like to have had seen that happen. And it is a fact that one of the last significant architectural contributions to the inner city is actually from 1970.

There is still no sign of an Architect Museum nor is there of a Design counterpart and this country is supposedly know for (among other) precisely those things. “Scandinavian/Nordic” architecture and design. Instead they turned 45 years of Swedish architectural heritage – a building that literally defines what an institution is – into a serviced office/start-up creative digital future proof locality. The café looked really enticing when I passed it the other day.

Stockholm is until this day still lacking a museum of Architecture and Design. And even less so a building to actually house them…

Left Behind III

May 1st, 2020 Comments off

What ever happened the instant before someone decided “- I’m not wearing these shoes no more this day/night!”. What happened after they were left behind? I always wonder…

A solitary in confinement or is it solitary confinement?

– I am going to throw your one shoe inside the grates!
– Noooo!

Another pair but that actually seem have been “kicked-off”*. Were they too small, tired of the whole plaid lining thing or completely fed up with dressing up all together? Your guess is as good as mine.

The number of construction sites in SoSo is simply astounding. The building codes from the past were not just invented randomly… says the building from 1939.

And now you will be able to look directly into every apartment on two or three floors from either the subway or the opposite side of the house.
