Reminisce II

2004. It was so cool and southing sounding. Bringing hope of less aggressive times. A timeless album because the opening track is something else: “Peace Of Mind”. Classic neo-electro.

More Dolor

January 22nd, 2018 Comments off

No punt intended… well that’s actually not entirely true.

Never mind that, if you like “Gun City”, “Sister” and the recently mentioned “5 9. 0”? Then there’re two more: “Ruby” and “Ara”. Equally excellent and brilliant contemporary electronic stuff.

I mean something, anything containing a title/track called: “Sorry, Prince (Wenh U Wwere Mine Cover)” and sounding like that?

What can I possibly say? Carving out a unique sound/sonic picture these days? That is a feat in itself. Doing so consistently? It is impressive. And contemporary in a real sense. I like it tremendously.

There’s a high-end sound track feel, yet a lo-fi approach that is quite unique. Digital production means if you have the ideas…

There seems to be more talent: lorn. Artist link: dolor.ws.

Again!? Dolor

There is something very, very special about this track… (actually is the whole album) and it is exciting.

Dolor ‎– Metropoles – Gun City – Not On Label (Dolor (3) Self-released) ‎– none – 2016.

It is still unreleased? Or is it? Different.

But, that’s just because Funcken played it? Well, it doesn’t really work that way. An excellent track is an excellent track and an excellent album is an excellent…

There is always a context. It is usually related to time for us humans in any event. It is decidely American in my mind. What does that mean? Well, it is from the US it is not UK bass.

How Excellent Is This? [i].

Funkstörung’s remix of Jay-Jay Johnson’s “I Want Some Fun Now” on the Viceversa-remix-album (Studio !K7, 2001) ?

Naturally, an artist completely overlooked by me… at the time? It is highly unlikely that I would have ever considered listening or playing the original or this. In fact I did not. What a silly, silly thing to have done…

The lyrics are as funny as they are scarringly and accutly correct.

Other artists featured? A Guy Called Gerald, Speedy J, Plaid and Jean-Michel Jarre. The coup-de-gras? Well there’s an early Funckarma track called “Spatial Convolution” remixed (or Morphed by Funkstörung as it were) by Funkstörung.

Close call between: A Guy Called Gerald and Jay-Jay Johnson. The latter is probably my favourite. What about Funckarma? Allways out of competion. Always and for ever, ever, ever.

NOTE: The tracklisting from *T*unes is one of the most incoherent I have ever seen. Apart from the abovious ones I used the approx. track durations (it was a right nightmare I can tell you).

Completely Out Of Control They Are…

January 12th, 2018 Comments off

The netlabels… el-ljud, aerotone, Touched, Silent Flow etc.

That’s litterally more than 1000 tracks or probably closer to ten. “Touched” are releasing compilations exceeding 400 tracks? “Silent Flow” has 129 releases since 2009. The recently found Aerotone label (apparently defunked since long) and earlier mentioned Silent Flow needs special attention. No, that is not accurate, they actually all need your attention:

– Plakto – Bumblesheep – el-ljud – ELJD015
– Arcfields ‎– Diodstar – el-ljud ‎– ELJD016

– Bluebridge Quartet – Adjusted For Low Noise Tape EP – Aerotone – aer007
– Le Mépris – Le Mépris – Aerotone – aer011
– Cantaloup ‎– On A Hill Not Far Away – Aerotone ‎– aer015

– Bezdna Radio Essentials Series 001 – 030 (I got 001 – 010…).
– Kosta T ‎– Hopelessness – Silent Flow ‎– SLNT052
– Jmdkm ‎– Mila – Silent Flow ‎– SLNT037

You need to remember: rinse.fm and all the other stuff.

I can’t really recall that it has ever happened before…

Reasonably, it must have happened once or twice during the time that have passed since early 2006.

But it looks like discogs.com is down and out.

For the record, I usually have a record on anyways…

Subversive

January 5th, 2018 Comments off

At one time it was feared and considered deeply subversive.

“Anti EP” is the third EP by British electronic music duo Autechre, released by Warp Records on 3 September 1994.

Anti EP was a protest against the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994, which would prohibit raves (described as gatherings where music is played), with “music” being defined as a “succession of repetitive beats.”

Warning. ‘Lost’ and ‘Djarum’ contain repetitive beats. We advise you not to play these tracks if the Criminal Justice Bill becomes law. ‘Flutter’ has been programmed in such a way that no bars contain identical beats and can therefore be played under the proposed new law. However, we advise DJs to have a lawyer and a musicologist present at all times to confirm the non repetitive nature of the music in the event of police harassment.
