Helios Is Ours II

February 6th, 2019 Comments off

There are many, many more (almost countless) out there.

The sun’s closest stellar neighbors are three stars in the Alpha Centauri system. The two main stars are Alpha Centauri A and Alpha Centauri B, which form a binary pair. They are an average of 4.3 light-years from Earth. The third star is Proxima Centauri. It is about 4.22 light-years from Earth and is the closest star other than the sun. SW Induced HW Fail

February 5th, 2019 Comments off

Picturing the screen of my used to be trustworthy: MacBook (Black) – MA472LL/A – MacBook1,1 – A1181 – 2092.

It is a magnificent machine and its primary function has always been to play my digital music library, which is still does till this day.

However, it was quite a while since the operating system os X 10.6.8 could be updated – all though it has done many times in the past (legally => paid for with actual: €, £, ¥ or $).

Now? It impossible to update even the browsers and the was Firefox decided that the then (last) working version of (that which is in all eventually a virus) flash player would be blocked automatically.

– What does this entail?

– Well, there’s not really possibility to install a functioning browser, ever.

– Why is this a problem?

– Well, quite surprisingly it was the computer in my network that excelled in showing streamed content and that had just become its secondary task.

– It posses a problem. Because the second in line does not comply. Graphics should be on par, helas the interface is not.

– What do you mean?

– In short a software update has disabled the Displayport => HDMI interface.

– Right…

A short recap: SW Induced HW Fail, in all essence it is a complete software induced hardware fail. Obviously the hardware is not failing it is the software that is commanding it to so.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Is As Good As It Looks?

February 1st, 2019 Comments off

Yes, it is; excellent, the food is excellent and the staff is super-friendly.

It is: International, spicy, the music is nice and the whole thing simply oozes overall goodness.

It is highly recommended, it is to be found in both Skanstull and Hornstull, obviously, that does not make things less appealing or tasty for that matter.

Looking For The Correct Fountain

January 30th, 2019 Comments off

Cactus 1931? I’ve never seen it before.

The Paris Colonial Exhibition (or “Exposition coloniale internationale”, International Colonial Exhibition) was a six-month colonial exhibition held in Paris, France in 1931 that attempted to display the diverse cultures and immense resources of France’s colonial possessions.

“Le Cactus”, architects André Granet and Roger-Henri Expert*.

My grandmother (allegedly) hid in a fountain in central Paris in the late 1920’s, fleeing both the police and avoiding a riot.

I’ll need to investigate the whole thing, but I have absolutely no reason to distrust the original tale.

At the time she was an Au-pair in Paris – and “she” would be my dear Grandmother born in 1911 – and that I know for a fact.

Mm, it is of some importance, that she did turn 101 years’ experienced (never ever ask/tell a women’s age…). It is and will remain indescribable blessings and eternal love!

* Is that by any chance the coolest family name ever? I mean, honestly is your last name: “Expert”? That is just…, I cannot breath right now (I… again I’ve never seen/noticed that before ever.).

De-construction II

It just had to be added… Elektroindustrija television. Yes, yet again it is nothing but the Brutalist concrete of old Yugoslavia that inspires a new (and old) generation.

Obélisque de Louxor.

The Place de la Concorde (French pronunciation: [plas də la kɔ̃kɔʁd]) is one of the major public squares in Paris, France.

Measuring 7.6 hectares (19 acres) in area, it is the largest square in the French capital.

It is located in the city’s eighth arrondissement, at the eastern end of the Champs-Élysées.

It was the site of many notable public executions during the French Revolution.

The Luxor Obelisk (French: Obélisque de Louxor) from Ancient Egyptian is made of yellow granite, rising 23 meters (75 ft) high, including the base, and weighs over 250 tonnes and is standing at the center of the Place de la Concorde in Paris, France.

It was originally located at the entrance to the Luxor Temple, in Egypt. It was classified as a historical monument in 1936.

Who’s Afraid Of…?

January 29th, 2019 Comments off

As I recall it – Eraserhead was/is really frightening, and especially so the soundtrack that goes wit it.

Henry Spencer tries to survive his industrial environment, his angry girlfriend, and the unbearable screams of his newly born mutant child.

Let’s not forget:

– The Elephant Man (1980)
– Dune (1984)
– Blue Velvet (1986)
– Wild at Heart (1990)
– Lost Highway (1997)
– Mulholland Dr. (1999)
– Inland Empire (2006)

Incidentally, I don’t like Wild at heart at all (in all honesty I hate it as much as I love Mulholland Dr.).

Maybe not as well-known a fact, I’m completely and utterly intimidated by and/or afraid of Laura Dern.

Brutalist concrete of old Yugoslavia inspires new generation.

Other stops on the tour include the spectacular Sava Centar, a conference and performance venue which seems to have taken its interior design cues from science fiction, mixed with classicist and modernist styles.
